For me, it was installing dynamat ( http://www.dynamat.com/ ) in the trunk of my town car. The bass from the sub tightened incredibly and pretty much perfected the overall sound of my system.

Honorable mention goes to the two z-line audio racks I now have when I redid my living room. Yes - for looks only, but I get a sens of pride looking at my system resting on nice stuff.

I would class racks and acoustical treatments as equipment. Most important non-equipment enhancement for my music is:

Removing any vibration from loose body panels (tightening screws, adding rubber padding, secure snap-fasteners...etc...)
Routing Line level cables to alleviate EMI/RFI noise

The act of unwrapping the music, placing it down, bring it up to speed, brushing it of fine debris, brushing it again, moving the armchair into place, getting the footstool, turning up the volume first, moving the arm into place, lowering the armrest and waiting for the noise that we all know REALLY precedes a session in the eargasmatron.

Such anticipatory trepidation never applies to headphone listening for me though.
