a bit of a late reply.. but better late than never, no?

the previous cable was, in my understanding, just a thin straight cable.

a. no sound difference

b. the new cable is of a 'braided' design - basically just think 2 wires twisted in a regular pattern.

the important differences are:

1. the new wire is less 'microphonic'; that is, physical contact with it is less likely to result in 'thunk thunk thunk' noises being heard through the drivers

2. in a way, it is now more fragile - the braided design makes it easy for the wire to get caught in things.
