Recently my Sennheiser HD228's messed up so was wondering whats the difference between the HD228 and the HD238 ?

It costs £10/$17 more for the 238's, but is it worth paying the extra?

What makes it better?

The HD238 is open-backed. The HD228 is closed. That means that the HD238 leaks a lot of sound into your surroundings. If you intend to use headphones in public, I would steer clear of the 238.

thanks, closed ones are preferred but not essential.

sound quality wise, is there much difference between the two?
i guess the hd238 is superior?

I have the HD238, purchased for $55. I have not tried the closed ones, but clarity is the usual benefit of open back headphones, bass may be slightly less, but overall, I think the clearness and extra fluidity of the music is well worth it!

228 = less sound quality but more volume and boomy bass!

238= Higher sound quality and tighter bass, less loud /boomy
