What's the difference between MZE900 and MZR909?

FYI, krayzie, ATRAC 1.0 is like the very first version of ATRAC, as released on the very first Sony MD home decks and the very first MD Walkman units. That version of ATRAC is nowhere near as refined as later versions of ATRAC. So if you have home-recorded MDs that have been encoded with the very first version of ATRAC, they will sound crappy by today's standards.

Type-R is purely an evolution of SP ATRAC encoding.
Type-S merely "enhances" LP mode playback, and doesn't affect LP encoding what-so-ever.

that's right. basically, type-s is a double cheese sandwich of the Type-R encoder + enhanced decoder for LP2/4 tracks. so when you're digitally recording your tracks in real-time sp mode with you're N10, you're actually using the R909 codec

. that's sony for you

.

and now that they're slapping type-s on their portables, wonder what's up on their sleeve?
