This site can come in handy if you don't want to spend a lot of time figuring out what setting to turn off/on to ensure a good rip.
It has optimizations for single/dual/quad core and profiles for ripping to mp3, mpc, ogg, flac and ape.
edit: The install file on the site also contains the plugins needed for compression to mp3, flac, ... and automatically places them in the right folders.
