Flash player.

Sound quality the most important factor.

128 - 256 MB.

USB v2.0 would be great, but v1.1 ok.

Headphones will be replaced so not important.

The thumb-drive type connectors are nice, so a cable isn't needed.

I would like to be able to drag and drop any file to the player without the need of extra software (one-time driver install ok maybe). My main computer is a PC but Apple compatibility would be a bonus.

Ogg vorbis support would be great too, but I think I'm
dreaming here for the price point.

Any and all advice appreciated.

I think that the pogo audiorave mp3/wma player would be basically what you are looking for... and it is $99 on hotmp3gear.com (I have no affiliation with this site, but Scott does offer good service, I bought my av320 from him)

if you want more features for the same price (but I believe a cable is required and its a little bigger) get the archos ondio 128 fm recorder...

The iRiver ifp-180T looks like a steal at 104.95$.

It has:
The best audio quality from a flash player,
UMS support,
usb 1.1,
128mb memory,
possible ogg support in future and
the most frequent firmware updates.

Check into it for sure!

edit: you can get the 256 mb version for only 149.95 at ecost too!

The iriver ifp-390t looks realy good. What does it offer over the ifp-190t ? On the web site, the only thing I can see is *realtime mp3 encoding*...whatever that is.

No USB2 and no direct plug (usb cable needed) but that's pretty minor. Now where can I buy these in Canada?

thanks for your input.

Realtime mp3 encoding means that it has a line in...
You stick the other wire into some headphone jack, like on a CD player or something.
It records the sounds it hears (without any loss, unless you screw with the wire during recording)

So, you can jack other people's songs, or transfer songs without use of a computer.

Many people don't really care about that function though..

You won't find the iFP 300 series much online, most of them are the other ones.

That dell one has a similar design to that of the nomad muvo...
I ordered a MuVo Nx... mostly cause it had a $50 rebate on it at the time (and it should still have that right now)..
So for around $120 I got a 256 meg usb drive player.

Yea, someone jacked it out of the brown box though... oh well....

I'm sorry to burst the iFP-1## bubble, but none of the iFP-1## series of flash players is OGG-upgradable at all, due to that series's lack of SDRAM memory that's needed for such support to work correctly (it uses a slower type of RAM for storage). If you want your iRiver flash player to support OGG in the future, you'll have to opt for the more expensive iFP-3## series.

Just noticed... the guy at gear.ign.com likes to use the neckstrap to the iFP 100s as a weapon...
When iFP 300s came out, he declared the power of the weapon of a player + neckstrap weapon combo...

I don't know... but I think some guy's been taking a bunch of stuff...

The iFP 300s arn't that much more expensive than the iFP 100s are they?
Only $20 more for the iFP300s...
(I personally think that the 100s look kinda plain..)
And they are the same price at 512 megs... (that's kinda out of the question though isn't it?..)

I'd suggest the 300s over 100s, but that all depends on your preference..
