I've been using the famous PX100 for a few months now and I feel it might be a good time to try out something a little better. But, the PX100 is often considered to be among the best headphones for under U$100, the best for portable player, the best for... and so on.

So my question is: without getting too far from the price of a new PX100, what are the good headphones that can sound like "a natural evolution" from the sound of the PX100 itself?

Also, considering that I hear most of my music on a pmp (Cowon S9), and that I might buy a portable amp to go with the new headphone.

The PX100 are one of the best portable headphones under $100. There are plenty more 'full sized' ones that easily sound better than them. Question is, do you need portable, or does size not matter?

The HD238 is similar sounding to the px100 but technically much better headphone. It is portable too. If you don't need portability something like the MS-1 or AD700 will sound better than the HD238. They both very different sounding to the PX100 though. If you want similar, but better, get the HD238. Wasn't a fan of the HD555 personally so I won't recommend them. Its not a bad phone, but the HD238, MS-1, and AD700 are all more enjoyably to listen too.

Grado SR60i's offer a nice step-up if you want something a little different. Otherwise, if you're into the Senn sound then go up the line to HD600 or HD650.

I second the suggestion of the HD238

Any of the 228/238/MS-1 options do it for me. A lot of it comes down to how much isolation you need - I wear the 228 at work, but its usually back to open phones at home. The MS-1 is easily the best VFM I have had from any single pair of cans. King of the kids, I guess, but they punch well above their weight.

I'm seeing the ones that have been posted so far. They all look promising.

For this next headphone I'm looking for a better sound, not necessarily portable. That's also the reason I'm buying an amp; since the size is only secondary to the sound.

And btw, my price range is up to U$150, so anything on the level of a HD500 is not only out of my reach as it would make impossible to buy a amp at the same time.
