They have some good open backed models which I've heard do very well for gaming. Is this purely for music or a mix of activities?

ATH-AD900X. Very bass-lite and very clear sound, huge soundstage and great imaging, no amp required. Open back over-ear design with wings for the top of the head, the comfort is a 50/50 with these cause of the wing design and they're not for portable use. Non-removable 3m long cable. Currently $149 on Amazon.

Yeah UK pricing on these is completely screw** for some reason, they're so much cheaper in the US.

https://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH...TF8&qid=1507328644&sr=8-2&keywords=ath-ad900x

You can also go for the cheaper ATH-AD700X if import/shipping charges increase the price too much.

Good thing is that they are only £160 on Amazon UK.

There is no better headphone, it depends ENTIRELY on what YOU want.

That being said the AD900X is very bass-lite, the bass is there but just barely and you can of course EQ in the bass. AD900X emphasis the mids and the treble a lot so you'll get wonderful vocals, especially female vocals and the treble is very detailed giving this headphone very good imaging, the soundstage is massive too making them amazing for gaming. On top of all that there's no amp required for these, they're simply plug and play on everything except the cheapest devices like $20 MP3 players. The only downside is that the cable is not removable and it's 3m long, these are not really meant to leave your desk/studio and are not for portable use because of the open-back design which leaks a lot of sound.

Onto the ATH-MSR7, it's more bassy than the AD900X but still quite recessed, the mids are more neutral and the treble is very detailed again. For a closed back can these have very good imaging and soundstage. No amp required so that's good and it has a removable 3.5mm cable. These are compatible with the vmoda boompro so they're very practical for gaming. These ARE meant for portability because of their closed back design and the removable cable.

Both of these are great for music and gaming and you can't go wrong with either, AD900X is meant to be a stay-at-home headphone and ATH-MSR7 is meant to be more of an on-the-go headphone so it depends on what you need.
