Im looking for a set of headphones that deliver the same kind of punchy bass the portapros do....anything less will not satisfy me.

I have the PX100's which dissapointed me.

I purchased the Grado sr80's (also dissapointing in the bass dept)

I have the Sony MDRV6's (pretty pleased with those, not perfect however)

From what I've read I don't think I can get a better portable headphone than either the portapros or the PX100's regardless of price (aside from the canal type phones). Someone correct me if Im wrong.

For home listening (walking around the house too), what might I be happy with that gives me similar bass to the portapros yet the clarity of the Grado's? Is there such a beast?

K240s-55
DT770-80 (amped)
MS2 (amped)

All stomp on the porta in bass department, maybe not in quantity but certainly in quality. All are much more tight and refined. Sub-bass extension on the 770 and MS2 are incredible.

I only have Koss 75 and to my ears PX100 is definitely bassy than Koss 75.

If I can take your examples as indicators of your price-range, I'd also recommend the AKG k240s.

Those look nice, price however is NOT an issue ($500 or less). I was looking to blow alot of money on some portables, but could not find anything better than the portapros, now I want something that I can use around the house.

Since price is not really an issue, anything else that I should consider?

Since I have the MDRV6's already, I want to make sure I'm getting something a bit better than those, not just a slightly different version of them. Thanks for the recommendations.

For that kind of scratch you could afford the dt770-80 and an amp. That would give you tons of bass. I'll let others chime in on what amp is synergous with the dt770-80.

yep. you want the bass? the DT770 with a butt kicking amp will fit under $500. It's the bassiest quality can until you get to the $1500 Grado PS-1.

IMO for the price nothing beats the portapro in the bass. Now for lots more money? Beyer 770-pro Sennheiser 590
