I did try posting this question elsewhere, but got no answers at all, so I'm hoping that you chaps can help.

I have a pair of HD600s (with replacement HD650 cable), being driven by a Meier HA2 se amp. The source is my Meridian 568.2 (as stereo DAC) which is taking the digital output from an SB3 on FLAC files.
Whilst it sounds fine, my reference point is my speaker/amp combination which is listed in my sig.
In short, the headphone combo is just nothing like as revealing or as natural in it's presentation. The differences are similar to the speaker combo sounding like the band in my lounge, whilst the headphone combo sounds like a good hi-fi (hope that makes sense).

As each speaker/amp combo is being driven by the same source, that leaves the headphone amp or headphones.
Any views on which would be most appropriate to look at next?

I've been reading a lot of good things about the AKG701 (or K702), would they give a more revealing presentation?
Or should I be looking at replacing my SS headphone amp with a valve unit like the Woo?
