I have a pair of HD600s (with replacement HD650 cable), being driven by a Meier HA2 se amp. The source is my Meridian 568.2 (as stereo DAC) which is taking the digital output from an SB3 on FLAC files.
Whilst it sounds fine, my reference point is my speaker/amp combination which is a set of horn loaded Impulse speakers being driven by a Bel Canto Evo2i amp.
In short, the headphone combo is just nothing like as revealing or as natural in it's presentation.
As each speaker/amp combo is being driven by the same source, that leaves the headphone amp or headphones.
Any views on which would be most appropriate to look at next?
I've been reading a lot of good things about the AKG701 (or K702), would they give and more revealing presentation?
