I am wondering, so if I were to get another pair of headphones....Do you know which headphone out there will provide the most sound improvement versus my Grado sr80?

i just want to read some comments so i can maybe aim for......or expect for in the future.

I know people will recommend the hd-600.....as the highest upgrade. But i want something thats in the middle and not as expensive.

I rather get another pair of cans before looking for an amp.

thanks.

Get a pair of 580's.... 600's without the carbon fiber whatever enclosure, and non-matched drivers. Sounds the same to me. You can get a pair used for $100.

As grancasa said HD 580s or the Grado SR325

Kenchi,

why not just waste your time by looking for parts for the Meta42 (if that's what you are thinking of getting) instead of looking for another set of cans? then learn everything about power supplies, and where to get the parts. then move over to interconnects, how to build them, heck you may want to make silver wire interconnects. by then you could have saved $200 or $300. it'll probably take you 2 to 3 months to go through all the threads and links here. by then you should be able to afford the HD600, W1000, CD3000, DT880, etc. and keep an eye on the for sale section. always have a nice little nest egg waiting to jump on a deal. i got an Hp910 on ebay for $50 shipped. and someone sold an hd590 for ~$135. so bargains can be had. and you can always get the parts a little at a time. this week the pcb, next week the op amp, then go on ebay for an ALPS Blue for $15 (I bought 6, a 10K, 20K, and 100K for $43 shipped). a week later you can get some silver wire at $2.80 a foot. 5 feet should be more than enough. a week later you can get the resistors, and a week later the capacitors. then the RCA and 1/4" receptecles. you'll probably save all the shipping charges if you can buy all the parts at one time, though.

if you're coming from Grados, I suggest the DT831 or the A900. you are more likely to find a used DT831 than a A900, though. or you could go 180 degrees and start at the K501 at about $80. then move up to the hd580 or hd600.

either way, you really shouldn't be in any rush. just keep enjoying what you have. take more time to think about the amp you want. then go for it all at once.

best setup i've heard currently?

that i think I may get and suggest

a blockhead, clou blue, and senn 600 with kimber interconnects to a marantz sacd player.

i don't think you just can't go wrong with 600
they sound great with even a total airhead, and the better the amp the better they sound. The clou blue I found gave it more air, and a bit thicker bass (that's what I found)

however this setup was just astounding. and quite comfortable

I suggest to setup up to the 580/600 series and get a simple meta42 amp from jmt
it's worth saving up and getting it, seriously.
