As a newbee, I'm coming to the forum with sony d-nf400 cd/mp3 player. I just bought er4p. I will probably buy the adapter for the er4s as well as a portable amp (and the senn650 to use only at home). I have no idea what is the best optable system or player to use. I am totally ignorant. I just took a crash course in the headphone scene.

My advice is to listen to as many portables as you can with the 4Ps and pick the one that sounds the best to you. They are great phones so they'll sound good on almost anything. Good luck!

well since you're going to get a portable amp, you want a player that features a line-out. are you looking for a CD player or a HD/Flash player?

I'm more interested in sound quality from a portable than anything else. Even if it means using a different program other than mp3 (right now everything is mp3 and I use a sony cd player). I don't need a lot of space because I only have less than 150 tunes in my library.

Maybe a Ipod Mini (4gb) or Creative Zen Micro (5gb) micro-hardisk player will do it for you. Or you could go for the smaller flash players (many of them from creative, i-river, sony etc etc check google!), although these players usually have poor internal amps, so you may want something larger. You could also go for an mp3 cd-player like the iRiver iMP series or sony D-NExx series. You'll need to get a player with a powerful headphone output or lineout in order to make the most of your etymotics. I think the the rio karma and creative jukeboxes have powerful headphone out puts, but they are fairly expensive.

I have a zen touch 20gb (about £160) and uses it with ety er6i earpbuds and it works great!

160 songs. I suggest that you don't buy a MP3 player. No offense, but I only boungt an iPod, because I have 11 GB of music. If you have less than half a gig, there is really no point in purchasing an MP3 player. I have seen people wtih 100 songs using iPods and iPod minis and it is just a waste of money.

Look if you have the money to buy ER-4Ps and an iPod. Why don't you just spend some of that money to buy more music and then maybe think of buying a MP3 player. Is there anypoint in buying something idfferent, when all your songs fit on a MP3 CD. Really revaulate your choice before asking this question.

he might be a good candidate for a flash player, with that few. if he has the CDs for those 150 songs, have him re-rip them to OGG or FLAC or ALAC (if he gets a shuffle) or even WAV with that few lol.

I love me-sa-me's Rio Carbon, with either my ER4Ps or Westone UM2s. It's like a tiny and elegant stick of dynamite clipped to my belt (in its luxurious and fully-functional Vaja case, of course).

Whoaa, tiger, hold on. Dude wants a DAP, so it is our duty and responsibility to direct him to the hardest wallet-bashing device possible.

The vaja's must be something since it's taking so long! Must have been the belt clip that slOws 'em down. I got the embossed leather, too so that also may be the rreason my karma travels in that dinky pouch. Hope it's waiting on me when I get home!

I did have a suggestion for something to buy Music. No offense, but I am an audiophile not a headphonephile. If he wants to go off buying $3,000 worth of headphones, DAP, and amps so be it. I am just advising him on the what is the whole point of the rig THE MUSIC. I get on edge about this subject, so maybe I should calm down.

Trust me, your library will grow. Particularly if you get an iPod...there's something about iTunes and the iPod that makes you want to grow your library. Must be subliminal messages planted by Steve Jobs.

Skip the flashplayer unless you're big into exercise or sports. You won't be able to amp them properly without a line-out and they'll generally produce lower quality sound. Go for an iPod mini or even a 20 gig iPod. There's a deal on the 20 gig at buy.com the last time I checked. $279.99, free shipping. If you want a mini, wait a month or so until the next gen mini is announced.
