I've had the 439's for 2 years now, they were my first pair of headphones, and I love them! Only problem was that the drive from my ipod wasn't good enough to fully power them.

Know I'm looking into a new pair, Perhaps the Sennheiser Momentums or M50x's? How does the sound on them compare to the HD439's? They also have to have enough drive from an Ipod. I've done my research, I'm just looking for personal opinions.

Replace the iPod with a FiiO X1 digital audio player, $99.

Searched it Up, it looks interesting.

Would consider purchasing after getting new headphones and a portable DAC, and I'm now considering an HD598.

Would like to try out ATH but I'm feeling loyal towards sennheisers for some reason

I would urge you to try to get a listen to the HD598 at a shop somewhere. If you can't do that, then you will be stuck with just random opinions. I will tell you that I have the 598 and the M50x and to me, the 598 is superior in all respects except sub-bass (I still prefer the 598). Just my opinion. You should definitely compare and contrast with others' views--don't take my word for it. Whatever the case, you should try to listen to any can you are contemplating, if at all possible, before you buy. Amazon is another great option, since it has such good returns policies. You can always order and return if you don't like it. Whatever you do, I wish you luck--all the best!

Im afraid I can't. I'll just buy them from amazon, I have done some research and they seem like a good upgrade.
Do you use any amps with it? Thanks for the reply!

The FiiO X1 built in DAC and headphone amplifier will mean you will not have to buy any extra external DAC or headphone amplifiers.
So whatever cash is leftover in your audio budget can go towards headphones.
Even sell off the HD439 for more cash towards new headphones.
The HD558 is almost as good as the HD598 (both use the same 50-Ohm driver).
Removing the black rubber tape from inside the cups of the HD558 makes the HD558 somewhat more like the HD598.

Here is a cable to make it a little easier to use the HD558/HD598 with a 3.5mm jack.

IMO M50x down grade from HD439s. They are way over hyped and I bought into it. Tried to like them but returned.
Momentums sound great just not most comfortable. If you don't mind open Try HD558 or HD598. Can't beat comfort.

Huh, I've heard about the 598's and I'm more interested in them. I was just about to purchase them when I saw alot of comments saying that sound leakage was bad because they're open. But the sennheiser HD439's are also open, and I've taken these everywhere outside the house. I just have to turn them up alot when there's noise around me, and I haven't got complaints about others hearing my music.

Get the HD598's?

Im a little bit confused by the ebay link. I know the  default cable of the 598 is 10ft and has to have an adapter to be used with a computer. So is the ebay link the iPod cable with no need for an adapter?

Stock cable has !/4 in plug comes with 1/8in adapter. Its better to have 1/8in plug cable with no adapter for X1 due to stress on jack in X1.

Ah thank you. Do you use your 598's outside your home? Even though the sennheiser HD439 are supposed to be closed, they can still easily be heard at medium volume, just tried it on a friend. Open headphones would make it even sound louder? Thats crazy

I have 558 not 598 but same thing as far as open. No I don't ware out. They even bother my girlfriend at night in bed so I use the HD439s or my Momentums.
Open is ok outside but others will hear it for sure.

I wear my 598's pretty much everywhere--I'm just careful with the volume. I don't hear complaints, but then, I don't listen super loud most of the time.
