I learned more than I ever could about my specific taste of headphones it seems. We seemed to sort of break it down over 150 posts haha. The one thing I'll quote myself on from it:
 
"I guess the big problem is trusting other peoples tastes and opinions. There are too many preferences and headphones to get an accurate depiction of what I will and will not enjoy based on other peoples reviews. HE-400's are my biggest regret as far as purchases, the DT-880's close behind."
 
Second part to that is what we were saying about just trying and trying.

Just remember that it might not always be the phones; might be a crappy DAC on your laptop or you are just in need of an amp.  Anyways, best of luck!

For V-Moda like "fun" sound I'd pick these up now that they are cheaper.
The PC Mag guys always use the same tracks and are not bassheads. 
This is ultra comfortable, has plenty of bass but an unusual clarity for these type of cans
(overpriced,hyped celeb stuff)
