I was looking at various opamp circuits and came across a small capacitor in parallel to the "input" resistor (R4). What would be its purpose? Thanks
what would be the use of a small (pF range) capacitor parallel to R4?

Did I miss the "in-parallel" capacitor in your diagram?
Most of the time a parallel capacity to a resistor changes the phase angle of the current and voltage across that component. This helps the current lead or lag the voltage.
