The first I held onto, was the iRiver Hp-140, and I still have it, though its battery life is not great.

I had a tiny 512 MB player for sudiobooks, but I cannot remember the name of it now.

My first mp3 player was a Creative Muvo. I think it was a 128 mb one that you could remove the battery compartment and use as a usb drive. Currently using a first gen Sandisk E280 rockboxed and a Sansa Clip.

Sony NW MS9 bought it in 2001? 2002? for about $300    
had to use sony's software to load music on it was a pain.

I can't remember the exact model, hell I'm suprised I remember the name. But it was one of these.
 

 
It was a present from my dad, like a decade ago. I think it held like 15 songs. Lol!
