What volume do you listen at?
Jan 30, 2009 at 12:29 PM Post #16 of 33
Albums replaygained to 89dB
Sony S639F at 8-10 out of 30
With Westone 3.

Since bying my first IEMs I have learned to listen music louder. Before I used to listen at very low levels. Comparing to the current setup, the player would have been at somewhere between 2-5.

I must be going deaf because I really can't hear very much at most of the volumes mentioned. Are you guys preserving your golden ears? Seriously?

Using my iPod Classic 160 + dbE HF30, I often turn my volume to the lowest level (no blue iPod volume bar visible) when listening at home, college, and sometime when driving around w/ my car.

I find the volume I must listen at is relatively inverse to the quality of the system I'm listening to.

Currently my EMU 0404 USB sits around 1/4 to 1/3 volume most of the time, depending on the impedance of the phones I'm listening with. I'm wondering how much that'll change when I throw the K.I.C.A.S. into the mix (about a month from now).

I mentioned this on another thread too; it must be time to measure our volumes! Classic rock, pop, mainstream jazz:

A829/W3-Shure grey softips
Custom2 EQ (no clear bass, -1 to 1/5, 2/5, the rest flat)
dbPoweramp CD-WAV > AAC350/vbr

typical 'original master' cds 9-12/30
'hot' master cds 8-9/30
older lower mastered cds 12-13/30

RH10/W3-Shure grey softips
Custom2 EQ (-1 to 1/6, 2/6, the rest flat)
SS4.3 CD-WAV > Atrac3+/352

volume results are same as above ('at home')

S638f
20-25 with Beyerdynamic DT770's
9-11 with Westone UM1's
11-15 with Yuin PK3's

I think I may need amp for the DT770's.

Offtopic, but awesome, someone who has heard of MD, let alone still uses it. I ended up ditching the format before Hi-MD, but at the time I used it, I loved my MD player.

Using my HJE900s on my D2 I go anywhere between 10-18 with no EQ and no amp but I go up to 30 for a few songs though
