Current 5.5g 80gb iPod & Atrio m5 vs. upgrades consisting of: iMod/Portable V-cap Dock/ALO Lisa III cables/Lisa III/Darth Beyers? Will it really be worth the hella-expense? Why/why not?

I listen to various metal genres, classic rock, 80's pop (1 hit wonders), hairbands, pre-1997 rap (mostly hardcore gansta stuff), hardrock, late 80's-early 90's R&B.

Get a budget dock and amp, or a player with better headphone out, and then get a computer based rig.

Or you could get a dock and a portable amp/dock. Either way, the iMod and all necessary components is pretty expensive and not a good way to start IMO.

Depends on your idea of "worth it".

With a respectable upgrade must come at least a better source and the dollars add up. Anything above that is just gold-toilet-luxury if you ask me.

It's "how far are you willing to spend" over "how far are you willing to go".

But the iMod is.

Perhaps it's just my inexperience, but I think you'll experience diminishing returns combining an iMod with a LOD. One or the other would be sufficient to produce high-quality sound. If you want to go all out, fine, but I'm sure there are better ways to spend your money, unless you must have THE killer portable rig.

I don't care to have portability. That's what the iPod itself and my Atrio m5's are for. I want a high quality large phones rig, with plenty o bass.

The Pacemaker comes out in February. Why not pair that with an iBasso D1 (it has a digital out).
