What to do! So confused!

Oh, I was thinking USD for some reason. Too hard for me to say if an amp for the DT880 would put you over budget. I wouldn't try buying the DT880 unless I had at least half a reason to think it paired well with my source and amp. And all that for FPS gaming?

Beyerdynamic DT880 PRO | SALE Now On!

Would that change the AD700 suggestion to DT880's?

All that for FPS gaming? I used to take it very seriously and got banned from a lot of servers for winning too much

I would just get the AD700 if I were you.

Right, a question for the OP to consider. Of course... when in doubt, spend more money... lol.

OK,

Thinking about this more, I think my intention would be to just buy a nice (nicer than my 595's) pair of headphones. Something which is a good all rounder if this is possible, so say I get the DT880's, they cost a bit but I won't use them JUST for gaming, I'd also watch films and TV on them,

I think the 595's are bit too... neutral? Good for production and analysis but a little lifeless?

I haven't had much experience with headphones so its hard for me to say, or compare too much

I personally would only get a Sennheiser HD600, 650 or HD800. Their lower end models seem to be bad for the price compared to their competitors. The DT880 will probably the best all 'round if you have the money to get them and amp them correctly.

I'm willing to extend the budget if I can get a good all rounder... the 880's are 'reference' headphones right? so If I ran them out of the cleaner/neutral output of the presonus firebox I could replace my 595's totally?

What amplifier would you say would suit the 880's for everything Zero Dac? Lets say my dac/amp budget could be £300 in 2 months rather than the 100 odd in 1 month...

edit: if the zero dac wouldn't be powerful enough i could use it as a pre-amp into my firebox maybe...

Hmm shouldn't comment here as I have never tried the Dt880, sorry. I may get flamed for in correct information

. The DT880 aren't as bassy as the DT770 and aren't as bright as the DT990. So out of those it is neutral but overall I am not too sure.

Ok Stang, thanks for your help so far...

Reading around I see that my firebox should be good enough as a DAC, as that is in essence one of tis primary purposes. So I think I will pick up a pair of DT880's and then consider which amp to buy. A Zero maybe, or a Compass... but I'll look into this more later

I use a Firebox for mixing and find it to be entirely up to the job. I must admit, though, that the headphone output has WAY too much gain for my liking, but otherwise I can't see anything about it not to like. Fantastic bit of kit.

Try the trade forum, might pick up some DT880's there

-- go for 250 or 600 ohms.

Although, a lot of these headphones being recommended are out of budget in the sense that... better source and amp would be required so hm. Perhaps stick with what you got?
