I have some MP3s that I would like to alter by getting rid of some distortion in the top end and maybe enhance the bass too. Know any free software I can do that with?

So far have found Sound Forge and Goldwave but neither is free. They do have trial versions though so will check them out. Free software is preferred if you
know any.

Audio mastering softwares are quite expensive, Adobe Audition, Protools and Cubase.

Free would be Audacity, or if you have Nero, it has a simple wave editor which I actually like.

Ofcourse if you are using linux, there are many free audio editing softwares.

I do have Linux on another PC so what is a good Linux app? I can move the files I need to edit over to there. It must be able to process MP3s though and not just lossless files. I have Audacity portable already and have used it but never noticed options to remove distortion in music files.
