I really like my old Sony A818, but I need something new and better, my main concern is sound and easy of use, but which?

sony x - you wont regret it. Best sound quality before HIFIMAN, either that or get a Cowon s9. Or get a Fuze V1 and Rock box it - you save money and can use it to get a better amp or headphones = )

You never know with Sony, perhaps when you plug it into your computer's USB port it installs a rootkit to prevent you from doing things they don't approve of.

I don't plan to use an amp, the headphones I have are Denon AH-C751.
