From what I remember, the CD2k is cheaper but better than the CD3k. Where does the 1.7k fall into this? are there more CD headphones? what is up with them??

For the first statement: Not necessarily. The CD2K just doesn't sound as good as other open-back headphones at its going price point.
As for the 1.7K, that model was the fully-closed predecessor to the current CD2K. Many people here believe that the 1.7K is better than the 2K.
