I've noticed that of the handful of high end headphones I've heard, only planar magnetic phones have a smoothness that sounds "liquid". What is the cause of this? Is it increased bass energy? I also noticed that for live orchestral music in a concert hall, I get a similar sensation towards the end of the show, but not the beginning. I thought maybe it could be due to the acoustic reflex relaxing, and letting in more bass as the show goes on.

It's about the pairing. Some headphones go well with a white or a red wine, others are better with a highball for that liquid effect...
