I'm currently using Creative CMSS-3D and I like it, but I'm wondering if anything else has come onto the scene recently. I'm also aware of Dolby Headphone, but other than that I'm not aware of other options.

I have heard of Binaural audio.. what is this all about? And do many games support this?

Anyways, what is the best technology out there right now that the most games support?

Why not hear it for yourself on youtube?
The latest "best" sounding is SBX without too much room reverberation added like Dolby Headphone (DH is designed for DD movies).
If you dont want to hear reverberation=not realistic when you're FPS rambo is walking on the grass/sandbank openfield then SBX is the choice.

If you ask me, you're already using the best, at least from a pure positional/competitive standpoint.

Granted, I think I may have heard better virtual surround techs before, but Aureal A3D's been dead for a decade and a half and very few games utilize GenAudio's AstoundSound. CMSS-3D Headphone's still the most practical for me just because of the wide compatibility.

THX TSP/SBX Pro Surround is noticeably bassier, possibly more natural-sounding, but I find the positioning worse. It's a dilemma I've had with a lot of virtual surround offerings and the use of virtual surround itself, positioning vs. quality.

That's just my impressions, however. The best you can do is to listen to those videos for yourself and make your own judgment. Nobody else has your head, your ears, your own personal HRTF that affects how you listen to the world around you.
