I am an old owner of a pair of Etymotic earphones and am looking to purchase new ones. I wonder if someone could recommend a new model under $500 that they think is a member favourite?

Either (1) ER4S or (2) ER4PT with the ER38-24 P to S converter. Pretty much the same thing; difference in price though.

errr, the er4's are all more or less the same thing.  you buy the p and buy a 75 ohm impedance adapter.  that way you can turn your p into an s as the only difference between them is their impedance.
 
oh and just ignore the b.  ive never encountered once anyone ever suggest a use case where it is the answer to anything.
 
now if your question was i loved my ER4 but i want something else and ive got US$500 to play with.  well then  if you can live without the isolation try to track down an RE-272.  its the most detail oriontatod thing ever, in the universe.  detail retrieval that is just on another level.  youd still have enough in that budget to get an er4 too anyway.

Wow - thanks guys. I just wasnt sure how much difference there was between each. The 4S looks nice also.  @mark2410 are the RE-272 an old model earphone that is hard to find?
