For around $100? Max budget would be like $130 or $140, maybe even $150. I play games of all genres but mostly FPS, and I listen to a lot of classical, orchestral, J-pop, and VG (odd combo, I know).

Searching around the site, I see the A(D)700s and HD555s recommended most around this price range for my needs, but the reasons for these choices are often mixed. What are the pros and cons of each of these, along with any other good cans around this price range? For example, what's the different between the A700s and AD700s besides the fact that one is open and one is closed? Which is better? I would prefer closed, but I would like considerations of all cans around my budget.

I love the Beyerdynamic DT770 PROs as all-around cans. They're especially great for gaming. If you look around you can find them along the top of your budget.

If you want to spend less, go for the Sony MDR-V6 at about $80. I had a pair of those that lasted about 12 years before they died. I really liked them for both music & games. However, DO NOT buy the MDR-V600, those totally suck! When my V6s died I bough the V600 not knowing they were different, I was very disappointed.

Also in your price range the Denon d1000 or Sennheiser hd555 would be good choices for all-around listening if you don't mind open cans.

I also have a pair of Grado SR-80s which are awesome for music, especially rock & acoustic stuff, but I don't like them for gaming at all.

Maybe even one of those new JVC cans? (HAR-X700/900)
THey're pretty inexpensive and seem to do they're job quite well.

I use the JVC RX900's for FPs gaming and console gaming. they are really good and have an amazing soundstage. One mate who tried them on thought that the sound was coming from my speakers and not the headphones. He was really surprised at how wide the soundstage was.

How does the RX900 compare to the A700 and DT770s? I'm mainly looking at the A700 and DT770 right now, but I'm unsure how they compare. Anyone know how the A700 and DT770 compare with each other? Highs, mids, bass, sound stage, isolation?

I'll also recommend the DT-770/80. They are a very fun headphone to listen to, and are great for gaming/movies/music. They were my first headphone and I chose them because I wanted to use them for gaming and music. They will not disappoint. It is very easy to pinpoint sounds in games with the DT-770's. Not to mention they're the most comfortable headphone I've worn, save for UE-11's...

If you can still find a pair, Ultrasone HFI 700 DVD are a great pair of cans for movies and games.

Wouldn't be hard, there are scads of them on sale in that price range and possibly lower on Ebay as well as Headfi. Believe me, I've checked.

I didn't hear them yet, but from what i read, i'd suggest the 2008er (redisigned) Edition, using S-Logic Plus.
Perhaps the HFI 780 (which is applied to be optimized for movies) doesn't fit into your price-range...
So, what about the HFI 580?
