I have to say that the Sony 729 is isn't the best I've used (sound-wise w/ EQ disabled). It's probably the most lifeless player I've ever had the 'pleasure' of owning. This is before I tried the EQ, however. With EQ enabled and Clear Bass up to 2, it sounds quite natural to me, suprisingly. I disagree with people saying they find it synthetic sounding. Good soundstage as well (w/ AD700).

If it didn't have EQ, I would probably have thrown it against the wall by now.
