The first 2 seconds of the original album cut of "Immigrant Song" from Led Zeppelin III has something going on I always wondered what it was.  It has 4 counts which get louder and higher before the music kicks in.  It sounds like the song is powering up or something.  Was it added intentionally or is it a byproduct of the way they recorded it?

Is this the right section for technical questions pertaining to music?

*snip* So according to that page you linked, the band considered the song to be a joke.  It is always fascinating to hear about the intentions of artists and how the public perceives art.

I always thought that the lyrics seemed a little silly and tongue-in-cheek, but never knew that it was intentional. It is kinda silly when you think about it, making a song about being a viking warrior when you're British and that isn't your usual lyrical substance.

Glad i stumbled upon this thread, always fun learning new things about old music
