I'm looking into buying these AKG K501, I read something about 1st gen and 2nd gen. Can someone explain the difference between those two to me and which one is better?

Also do you think I should buy these first before getting Senn 580s because I want to get both of these.

Are there anything that I should watch out on ebay if someone lists them as brand new because I don't want to get a 2nd hand that got repackaged.

Any suggestions to where I could get K501 for the cheapest while getting a reliable product?

I have not heard 1st gen, but there is said to be a little more low end punch. I have 2nd gen and they are wonderful but very limited to certain genres and even songs IMO. I am about to go for the HD580 amazon deal to compare.

the HD580's would be easier to get. the K501's aren't being made anymore, and its hard to find a pair here. GL to ya man.

I already found a pair for $150USD.. should I go for it? It seems brand new since its put up on ebay.. but.. I'm afraid of getting a repackaged one..

Just like the K240, older is better with K501.

stick around the fs forum here and you'll find a pair in the $100-120 range. they come up for sale fairly often so you won't have to wait all that long.

Eh? I've been seeing K501s in the FS forums quite often the past few weeks, and they aren't exactly selling like hotcakes either o.O
