IMO, Acid Jazz is a slickly packaged blend of progressive smoooooooth jazz and trip-hop-ambient

Though some is alright, for the most part I find myself turned off when artists rely too heavily on sampling and electronica

One of the very best examples of Acid Jazz is the band Incognito. They were at the forefront of the movement. Their label, Talkin Loud was one of the pioneering brands, led by A&R man Gilles Peterson. You can listen to his radio show "Worldwide" on BBC Radio 1. Acid Jazz as a genre has come and gone, so his show features music from all corners of the jazz world. Occasionally, you can hear instrumental hip hop and soul music as well.

I LOVE the Brand New Heavies! I think they were lumped into Acid Jazz genre as well even though they're just as much funk and R&B. Their first album, self-entitled, was more instrumental then some of their later releases.
