I'm trying to move to over-ear headphones from IEMs for increased SQ. My body gets hot easily, so I want headphones with these kind of padding to not sweat as easily. I was thinking of the Dt 770 to be paired with my Cowon J3 and no amp. Thanks.

I really like my Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80-Ohm headphones.
But I would not recommend them unless you get a headphone amplifier, brings out their best.

What do you think of the supraural modded HD 558 for the Cowon J3?

I've been using my new Sennheiser HD-558 (non-modded) for two weeks, it's great.
I have only used it with an Essence STX (headphone amplifier), so I can't be sure how well if will work with your Cowon J3.
With the prices that are charged for the Cowon J3, I'm going to guess that it can power headphones decently well, at least.
I would say go the HD-558, you did know they are open headphones?

Yes, but I'll get used to the constant stares and avoid the back of the bus if noise arises or use my IEM. Thank you for your feedback. HD 558 is a done deal!
