No I was not thinking of the SA5000,although it is a phone worth thinking about.

And you are correct in a way as the SA5000 has a membrane that encloses the driver.

So, what, with the Qualia, it's a fully open back, but the baffle is sealed? I guess that makes sense....How large is the driver on the qualia? If that's the case with the baffle, it's gotta be a huge driver to get soundstage...

If the Qualia's cellulose baffle is similar to the SA5000 then it completely encloses the driver which in my view does not make it a true open phone.
