What happened to Sennheiser's HD-497?

Some new HD4xx models are out, too, though none of them is a direct replacement. The current top HD4xx is the HD485, in about the HD497's size there's the HD435.

The HD497 is still in sennheiser website.
Anyway, they were the past "top" of the 4XX series.
The new "top" is the HD485, but it's not clear if the new HD425/435/465/485 are totally replacing the old line-up HD437/457/477/497.

bye

sq-wise, perhaps, but objectively speaking, NO! i got mine for roughly half of that, brand new off amazon. also, the 555s should be a big step up from the 497s.

however I already own the HD-457 and HD-555 so I'm thinking I should just forget about them. The HD-457 already sound great to me though, for what they are and the price I paid ($30 brand new btw best value headphone purchase I've ever made)

For 80 you can get the newer and better eh350 or hd485.

The 485 is much more warm and bassy. Better with an amp but still a lot in the mid bass region. I actually prefer the sound of the leaner 497.

I sold mine because they weren't that portable and I found the mids a little too distant. Though the PX200 that replaced them didn't exactly match up to the SQ the 497 provided, they were good on comfort and portability.

To those with the HD 497s, how are the pleather ear pads doing? Any cracks by this time? My corroding earpads on the px200 has turned me away from the padded Senn line.

I have been using them in the hospital all last week while sick. They are still very comfy, and sonicly good headphones for the money. My girlfriend took them to work with her and i will not be seeing them again soon. I was using them with Purks 20th annv. diskman and his PPA. Sound was really good.
