I want to connect my Samsung R580 laptop (hdmi, usb 2.0, esata, expresscard 34, headphone jack) to my Rotel RSX-1560. I have a Infocus SP7205 projector that doesn't accept HDMI.

What external soundcard should I get to get the best quality surround sound? If getting an external soundcard isn't the best solution for me, what is? I would prefer to keep it under $100 but if I'm better off spending more money, I'm willing to do so. I assume though that after say about $400, I would be better off getting a new sound receiver that does accept hdmi (though I was hoping to avoid this if a cheaper sound card could produce the same or just a little less quality).
