I posted the question over at CA a while back, without much luck.
I (think I) understand the issue of kmixer in Windows XP, and why you don't want it in play.
Does Rhythmbox - operating in Ubuntu or, I suppose, any other Linux flavor - pass music files without downsampling? In other words, does a cd ripped in flac or wav or aiff play back as an exact copy, and moving up the food chain, is the same thing true for higher resolution downloads?
thanks,
Scott A.
