what does the DC IN 4.5v mean on my Cd player?

It means that you can plug in a 4.5 V power supply when you are at home in order to avoid using expensive battery power.

It stands for Direct Current. There is AC or Alternating Current which is what you have in the home. The receptacle is for a Wallwart or external power supply that converts 120 Volts AC to 4.5 Volt DC. Hope this answers your question.

If you buy a AC adapter, make sure it has the correct polarity and the necesary amps. The diamnds with the circle in the middle that may exist next to the 4.5 v sign shows the polarity. Most devices accept positive polarity in the middle and negative at the rim.
