What do you think about SONY earbuds?

I agree that the EX71 could have been designed better. The EX71 doesn't stay in position well, and doesn't isolate anywhere near as much as the better Etys and Shures.

What I am reading is that the desing of the Sony MDR-EX71s is such that the sounds that it places in your ear canal are damaing, even if they are not loud. To be honest I don't understand this. If the sounds aren't to loud and they are the same pater of occilations of matter that is produced by other headphones or earphones how can they hurt your ears. I suppose you could be saying that the EX71s repruduction of the occilations is not the same as other earphones. That is the only way I see this making sense that they hurt your ears. If the sounds coming out of the transducer are the of the same patern as with other earphones then i don't see how a housing could change them to be malicious. On the other hand if the sounds that the transucer produces are mailicious in themselves then i wonder how in the world they are diffirent from any other speakers reproduction of waves. I suppose with the first option the body or housing could cause some "anomalyes" of diffirent frequencys cancaling each other out and amplaphying each other but how is that malicious to your ears, maybe nasty sounding and proving to be inacurate in portrayal of a flat responce but not harmful

Me is puzzled?

I mean that 71's design can only cause the resonance of part of the canal,so the energy concentrates, and cause more damage,on the contrary, ER series cause the resonance of the whole canal, and the energy disperses.

How do you know that the Sonys only resonate part of the canal and the Etys resonate the whole canal. Is there a paper on this or did you measure it yourself?

sorry,I never measured it myself,I just read other's research paper.
And from the experience of one of my friends.
His hearing is damaged by 71..

I would like to see this research paper. I listened to the EX70s for a long time (2-3 years). What is wrong with your friends hearing. You know what kind of damage. Can't hear anything, or hard to hear everything or can't hear lows or highs or everthing is muffled...?

His can't hear lower things, maybe he turned volume too loud. His eardrums are examined to be partially damaged.
The doctor advised not to use ED series .

I'll never use 71,however E#C series are better things, and if the volume is proper, damage could be less

maybe he had his player turned to max and forgot to turn it down before he put on his canalphones?

Maybe, but he sometimes turned it to max intentionally for a crazy sense of bass...

It's no surprise his ears got damaged then. You can cause some serious harm to your hearing if your ears get exposed to extremely loud volume levels, even for a short time. Especially when using headphones and even more so when listening with canals. Remember, always keep your music at a comfortably low volume...and then turn it down a notch just to be on the safe side.

The only real star of the Sony earbud lineup are the E888's. The EX71's are OK for messing around or if you need some isolation (although they are not anywhere near that of the Etys or Shures) and are very comfortable. Might be ideal for sleeping buds.
