What computer do you use?

My machine is a bit long in the tooth
rolleyes.gif

PowerMac G4 450 Sawtooth
1 GB RAM
20 GB/ 40 GB Maxtors
DVD-R/ LaCie Firewire CD-RW
Airport/ D-Link 614+
Logitech Navigator Duo
19" LaCie ElectronBlue III
OS 10.3.2
30 GB iPod

Thankfully, Apple keeps improving my machine with every new OS release, but I'd really like a G5 Powerbook whenever that happens.

quake3?

dual proc machines are so underrated and badmouthed, mostly by single-proc gamers who have never used one (scsi is the same deal). game performance is usually not the main goal of a dual proc machine, and not all applications can run smp, however, the ability to multitask is unbelievable. i've done everything from play a game, burn a cd, and encode mp3s all at once on my dual proc machine (back in the day). my personal favorite is to use eac's compression queue and allow it to do two files at once: encoding two mp3s at the same time, both at full speed, is quite fun and fast.

err anyway, my home machine is sort of down.. but it is a dual p3 700@933 box. 768mb of ram, a few 15k seagates, a few ide drives, pioneer 104, yamaha f1, etc. nothing too special, but was a great desktop and has lasted me for over three years.

You have to reinstall Windows to get the damn driver to work correctly. I've had endless problems with Photoshop, Painter, and Illustrator. Damn pop up menus dissappear off screen. Argh.

Unless you are dying for dual DVI, I've had much better experience with my GF4 with DVI and VGA. The driver has more features, and is easier to use. Not to mention you can actually play decent games with a GF4.

The P650 is a small card, and is cooled passively, so it's silent. It runs fairly cool too.

I haven't noticed a real difference in image quality between the two vid cards. Although, color calibration is a little easier with the P650. But I can't calibrate two monitors independantly on the same computer. (damn Mac luvin, Pantone/Colorvision!)

But I digress.

I do know that Matrox cards have excellent 2D performance, so if that's what you do, I'd get one of them, I don't know about their color accuracy or anything though.
