I am looking for a closed set of phones that have the "not so up front highs" sound of the HD600. You know, a little laid back and warmer (probably opposite of Grado's).

I was considering the HFI780 until I read they are closer to the Grados.

One that comes to mind is the ESW9, are there any other closed phones?

Audio-Technica's ATH-ES7 is a fair bit cheaper than the ESW9. I wouldn't really say it's all that similar-sounding to the HD600 though, but if you're looking for a warm-sounding headphone, the ES7 is definitely one of those.

yup ath-es7 might do it for you. i got some and also got the hfi 780 and they are warmer and sound pretty good.

Not sure why ES7 is recommended here as it has very little in common with HD600. D2000 might be a little closer, they were akin recabled HD650, highs might be a bit brighter though, but not offensively. Another one with a laid back signature is DT250, they are also portable, but I found them quite boring and uninvolving, plus soundstage literally didn't exist.
And probably the best match would be AKG K271S, those babies are like smaller HD650, spare a little shier bass. Great details, amazing mids, tight and punchy bass (with adequate amplification), clear and non fatiguing highs, smooth and musical.
