I'm a big Dennis Lehane fan. If you haven't read any of his books you are missing out.

Sounds like an excellent choice.
Very dense, but excellent.
Severl years ago I read "The Grand Inquisitor" chapter.
Outstanding.

And now, my "book of the month!"
The Guns Of August.

Picked it up on blind impulse some months ago and have been reading it on the bus. I've not much clue of what they're talking about half the time, but the other half contains some luxurious thoughts that have at least deepened my worldview a bit.

I just finished Eragon by Christopher Paolini and now making my way through Eldest. So far the series is not a bad read but I do find Paolini's writing a bit tame compared to GRRM or Hobb and others in this genre. I guess the series is more geared to young adults.

Eldest was...pretty bad IMO. Eragon was a fantastic book; took me all of two days to read it. Not meaning it was short but I just couldn't put it down. Reading eldest all I wanted to do was put it down. Brisinger was much better.
