Number 4 in the Alex Hawke series. The writing is engaging and modern, the
characters are a blast. And, Lord Hawke continues to acquire new wounds in
every book. He's a scarred-up dude.

I am currently reading "Sound Man" by Glyn Johns (recording engineer and producer)—not very far into the book yet, so I can't really say how it is. I do want to highly recommend "Respect Yourself: Stax Records and the Soul Explosion" by Robert Gordon though. I don't think I ever enjoyed a book that much. It's basically just telling the story of Stax Records, but still extremely entertaining.

Just finished Drood by Dan Simmons (Hyperion, The Terror, etc). Falls under historical fiction/horror- the story of the last years of Charles Dickens, told through the eyes of his good (at times) friend and fellow author Wilkie Collins. Would give this 4 out of 5 stars, just because I felt the middle of the story dragged a bit too slow for my tastes as I was reading it. But I feel the end of the story is perfectly executed and does not merely make up for that plodding, but rather made clear why Simmons chose to go as deep into building the characters and story as he did.

Number seven in the series. Alex going back into Russia, after he killed the
tsar? Look out, man.
