Tamales. This is a Mexican food item wrapped in corn husk. In this version, it’s filled with a corn meal like substance and also pork inside too.

The wrapping of the corn husk keeps it moist during the cooking and can also function as like a natural plate.

I also enjoy tamales with a hot salsa sauce. I had it with orange soda. Beer is also a good drink with it.

Deep fried calzone.

The deep fried version of calzone is rare here in the USA but it’s more prevalent in southern Italy.

I like it because the standard baked calzone texture is too similar to pizza. The deep fried texture gives it a different change of pace. It offers something that’s more distinct in the Italian food world.

That reminds me of something when you said fried. Pizza puffs! But, calzones are classier. lol

Potato Leek Soup…. with house made Asiago cheese bread.

Excellent version. Hearty and rich. A specialized bakery makes soup from scratch along with their high quality bread.

Ideally you want to eat this in the winter but it’s so good that I wanted now.

Classic rustic style Margherita pizza

Excellent crust. Nice chewy bread like experience. Also the buffalo milk mozzarella cheese was like smooth butter. The authentic San Marzano tomatoes were a perfect match.

Sometimes simple pizza is the best

This is the most rustic looking pepperoni pizza I’ve ever had. The pepperoni had a nice charred crispness.

The dark orange spots on the pizza is nduja. Nduja is a spicy pork spread that comes from the Calabria region of Italy.

Onigiri.

What is onigiri?

It’s a popular food item you will see in convenient stores in Japan. Usually costs around one dollar. It’s basically a rice ball or rice triangle shape wrapped with dried seaweed and has a filling inside. My version has spicy tuna inside.

Onigiri is a great snack or light lunch. Especially good for busy people on the run. Just grab one while your walking down the street or busy train station in Japan.

Onigiri is extremely common in Japan but rare in the USA. On rare occasions you will find it in America like the one I’m having today.

White pizza (meaning no sauce) topped with cherry tomatoes.

My first time having pizza topped with cherry tomatoes and it’s very good.

As you can see in the photo, the crust is outstanding. The crust was like eating high quality fresh baked bread from the oven. A heavenly experience if you’re a bread lover.

Also as a side item I had Calabrian hot peppers. These are marinated hot peppers from the Calabria region of Italy
