I was in a bar and had a mezcal Negroni cocktail. But with a strange ingredient that’s not part of the recipe.

The oddball ingredient was the Reyes Ancho Chile liqueur. It’s a liqueur made from Ancho Chile peppers.

This is extremely unusual to see in cocktails but it’s a great ingredient.

The bartender let me photograph the bottle so here it is.

I’m a huge fan of gin. You’re probably right. I would probably add a small splash of tonic along with the cucumber soda.
I can only speak for myself, but this summer in france is the coldest/wettest for 10 years.
We have reached mid-july and I can remember seeing only 4 mozzies.
Consequently I am thinking this is a once in a decade opportunity, to explore gins/tonics that do not include the bitter taste of quinine.
Maybe next summer will be different, but today the focus is on this summer. :relaxed:

Rosemary Gin Fizz

Awesome cocktail with gin, raw egg whites, lemon juice, honey and rosemary garnish. I mixed in the rosemary garnish into the drink to perfume it with its oils.

Gin fizz cocktail is an old cocktail that goes back to more than a hundred years ago. Yet it tastes modern and cutting edge. Great drink.

What does the egg white add?
Otherwise you seem to be heading in a 'Mediterranean' tonic direction, rather than an 'indian' tonic direction.
Is the lemon juice necessary for the citric acid, or could you try the vibrant lemon oil route, using lemon verbena or lemongrass?

It adds a frothy slightly thicker texture. The egg white is an old tradition too. Typically serious bars use egg whites for those types of classic cocktails from around a 100 years ago.

You probably could add lemon oil. Maybe it might work.

Verbena or lemongrass could work too possibly.

The appeal of using real lemon juice is the freshness quality. I would never use bottled lemon juice. If a bar uses bottled lemon or lime juice, the drinks are usually cheaper in price and not as interesting in flavor.

Ethiopian Beer

Habesha Ethiopian beer. It’s a nice light and crisp beer made from barley malt.

Very rare to find beer but a delight especially in this warm summer season.

Goes well with Ethiopian food too.

Salty Lassi

What is Salty Lassi?

It’s a yogurt drink from India and flavored with salt and spices. There are sweet versions but I have a fascination with salted drinks. It makes a very nice after lunch drink and it’s not too salty despite the name.

Salted drinks do exist in western cultures such as the dirty martini and Bloody Mary so the concept is not really that strange.

Edit: I apologize if the photo does not look good. This is how it was served to me at the restaurant and I did not take any sips before the photo shoot.

Yogurt drinks already have natural bacteria so it can look like a biology lab experiment at times.

Malted Milkshake with bacon

Yes you can mix bacon with a milkshake shake and it’s good.

I ordered a malted flavor milkshake from Five Guys (American chain restaurant) and they will add bacon to your milkshake if you request it.

In my opinion the malted flavor is best with the bacon combo.

Heated discussion at home the other day after seeing the bacon option on the doordash menu for Five Guys shakes.

Two questions were to be asked if any of us saw someone order this.

1: What’s wrong with you?

2: Is it any good?
