what are symptoms of bad diode or filter capacitor?

Hello, I could use a little troubleshooting help here.

I hear loud hum in the headphones via headphone amp. The + regulator powering the opamp gets super hot while it's - brother isn't.

Could a bad diode or filter cap in the supply cause this?

Is there a ways to test these parts to see if they are individually ok?

Yup. but don't jump to conclusions.

Get out your DMM and check the voltages going to and coming from the regulator (they should be very close to - regulator)

Sure, remove them from the circuit and ohm them with your DMM.
