I want to get a nice digital camera probably in the $200-300 range or possibly up to $400.. I am not very savvy at knowing what I need in a camera, I just know my camera phone isnt gonna cut it. I know ill need an optical zoom and besides that im not sure.. Id like a camera that is pretty user friendly, im not into having to change settings a whole bunch just to get a good picture. Anyways please forgive my crappy grammar and horrible punctuation. But any advice would be very helpful.

Thanks

If you want a straight up point and shoot, the canon powershot SD and S series are quite revered.

I promise you, whatever you are looking for as far as Digital Cameras are concerned...these guys are THE authority / experts...

This is my favorite site~ very comprehensive:

~the best of the rest:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html
http://www.pcphotoreview.com/TOPcrx.aspx

http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/ratings.php
http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/camera/products.html

By the way, there are A LOT of choices out there. Find the one you like, (design, price, maker...) and just buy it, 'coz they keep coming out with cheaper and better products (think iPod) every 6 months and no matter what you buy now, they will be something better couple of months from now.

Think of it as buying a car. Get what you want and be happy with it. Good luck and happy shopping!

I recently did a TON of digital camera researching for the past holiday season. I came to the conclusion that Canon and Casio make excellent cameras which also use standard memory cards.

For $200 or less, I picked up a Kodak Z730 for my sister. Good quality pics, especially for the price.

I too was in your price range. I chose the Canon Powershot A610 (5 MP) and have been extremely satisfied. I picked it because it has excellent picture quality, is very good in auto mode, and has many features should I wish to explore them later. I also chose it over S/SD because it uses 4 standard AA batteries. I got Energizer NiMH rechargeable batteries for it for under $10, and a full charge will get you at least 500 pics, which bests almost all other cameras even with a lithium ion battery. Plus, if you are in a pinch, just pop in alkalines and you are set.

The A620 is the 7 MP version and I would also highly recommend it too. I was also very interested in the Casio models and I am sure they would be very good too. Good luck!

i third or fourth the canon sd line. great PS lineup.

once you get into it, don't fall for the "i need to spend $1000 on a digital SLR and lenses" trap.

PS these days, 5.0 mp at least, is fine enough unless you're making posters or magazine shots.

The Panasonic FX01 is a very good camera in my opinion. It's quite small, but picture quality is great. VR One word of caution though, the picture quality is not very good under low light conditions. It ain't that cheap either.

I have a 7Mp Samsung V70 and a 5Mp Casio Exilim. Both are great and have long battery life. The Samsung has better pics, I just like the look of them better. The only problem I have with both is that they have too long of a delay before they take the pics. I would recommend both though, the Exilim is great too because it is tiny!
