The Shanling ph100 is a great amp for the AKGs.  Tons of detail, great bass extension and impact and a build quality unlike anything I have seen.  I recently bought an M-stage with the opa627 mod hopeing it would be an upgrade for my k701s, but after comparing the two I feel like the ph100 is probably as good or better.  The o2 is a good amp for the price as well, but I thought it was a little to dry and lifeless with the k701s.  Still might be worth checking out if accuracy is what your after.

+1 on the M-stage.

O2 is a great amp, but I think that the combination with Q701 can get dull and sterile at times, depending on the signature you're after.

Otherwise I would say M-Stage also.

I recently tried the K701 (old version of Q701) with my iCAN Headphone Amp, awesome. Rarely had as much fun with headphones! You can read more here:

The iCAN fits your budget perfectly as well, definitly worth giving a try. Only one warning, after you get it, you may be tempted to upgrade your DAC...

Cheerio Rich

What would that mod change on the M-stage? Would it be better than a stock one?

Yes it should be better than stock.

I haven't tried OPA627 but with LM4562 there was a somewhat warmer sound with a better controlled bass. The changes are subtle but indeed noticable.

Ended up getting that M-stage I posted for $193 shipped to my door. Now all I need is RCA cables to attach the Titanium HD to the M-stage.

Thoughts on this?
Cable quality really any different? I dont want to spend 2x for a cable that is only 5% better(Im a price/performance guy)
