Hi, I've been using Schiit Lyr for two years now and I feel it is not capable of showing the full potential of my two pairs of phones: LCD-2 rev.2 & Hifiman HE-400.
I have an impression that Lyr makes soundstage smaller and flat.
This is not too good as LCD-2 already has closed-in soundstage. As for my other pair, I think my iPod provides more dimensional sound to HE-400 than my Lyr. I also feel I could get more with a better amp overall.
Thus I am looking for a better amp for my headphones and for any future ones. I will be grateful for amp recommendations up to $1000 (if possible comparison to Lyr).
