What has been putting me off buying a DAC so far is that I only knew of the ART DI/O... and it doesn't seem like a high end product

Well obviously there are other DACs...

For example I heard the TAG McLaren CD20R against the Sony SCD-555ES the other day, and while I liked the Sony better for its slightly more forward sound, it could just as well be the fault of my HD580

Higher up in the TAG McLaren product line is their CDT20R + DAC20 combo, costing over $2500. I just wonder how much of the cost goes into the CD Transport and how much into the DAC...

The DAC20 includes HDCD decoding, which seems darned hard enough to find all over the place...

What other separates systems are there for me to consider? Better yet, are there going to be any SACD systems coming in separates?

Then of course there are the upmarket standalone DACs to consider... MSB Link, MSB Gold, etc.

BTW, what do you think of this (negative) review of the MSB Gold against the Audio Note DAC Kit 1.1? (The guy sounds a bit wacko...
