Wells Audio - Impressions & Questions

First time back online in a long, long time. I stopped by to see @The Piper today. It was great to briefly catch up. I’m looking forward to a few tweaks to my Headtrip and Cipher and more listening next month.

What’s happening in the Wells Audio corner of head-if??
Enjoying my Milo w/ LCD-4. What a combo! Also visited with Jeff a few months ago while hanging out with friends in Campbell. Great guy ... sure knows how to make a kick-ass amp.

My Cipher is an early version. A while back he started using a shielded coax cable inside. On most units this cable could be swapped by the user, but on my unit it requires some disassembly so Jeff needs to make it happen.

I’m also upgrading to the metal enclosure on my Headtrip. I love that Jeff’s gear is hand assembled with high quality components, but I’ve always struggled a bit with the acrylic enclosure. They too are made by hand, I just like the tighter tolerances and heft of a metal enclosure.

How do you like your LG II LII? I have the LG II LI.

Oh? I hadn’t realized that Wells was coming out with a new OTL. I’m picking up my Headtrip on Sunday and will ask about it. I’m curious…

Yup! I saw a post about it on the Canjam thread. Could not find anything else anywhere about it lol.
If you do ask about it let us know!

I just read the CanJam thread. On Sunday, time permitting, I will see if I can audition one or two items….

I just picked up a prototype chassis for the new OTL amp this afternoon. I plan to build a mocked up OTL minus the faceplate tomorrow and will snap a couple of pics to post. Planned retail is $1400.00 and $2500.00 for a Level II model.

Just a couple of pics of the rough first assembly of the new OTL headphone amp. Everything seems to fit and wired everything up. It works tight out of the box. I just finished it very late on Saturday evening so it could use some fine tuning. It still needs the faceplate and it has a slight ground loop but it is the most detailed and dynamic OTL I have ever experienced.

$1400?! That is a great price. I've been wanting to try an OTL with my Atrium Closed but didn't want to spend a crazy amount. Big fan of the being able to level up. Nice knowing if I love the level I version I can get it improved. I might have to pick this up next year.

Would the dragon be able to use E80CC tubes instead of 12BH7?
